Vanuatu

Capital of: Port Vila

Port Vila is the capital and economic hub of Vanuatu, located on Efate Island. It hosts the national government, main port, and international airport, reflecting its role as the country’s administrative and commercial center. The city’s “Port” hints at its sheltered harbor, and its bilingual character (English and French, plus Bislama) stems from Vanuatu’s unique Anglo-French condominium history before independence in 1980. Don’t confuse it with the distractors: Luganville is Vanuatu’s second-largest town on Espiritu Santo; Honiara is the capital of the Solomon Islands; Nukuʻalofa is the capital of Tonga. Memory tip: Vanuatu → Vila (V to V), and “Port” reminds you it’s the main gateway.
