Trinidad and Tobago
Capital of: Port of Spain
Port of Spain is the national capital of Trinidad and Tobago, located on Trinidad’s northwest coast. It houses the Parliament at the Red House, key government offices, and serves as the country’s administrative and commercial hub. The other options are important towns—Chaguanas (the most populous municipality), San Fernando (a major industrial city), and Scarborough (the main town of Tobago)—but none is the national capital.
Context tip: Think “the nation’s PORTal to the world” to remember Port of Spain—its natural harbor made it a colonial administrative center and it has remained the capital since the 18th century. It’s also famous for the Queen’s Park Savannah and as the vibrant heart of Trinidad’s world-renowned Carnival.
