Solomon Islands
Capital of: Honiara
Honiara is the capital of the Solomon Islands, located on the island of Guadalcanal. After the intense World War II Guadalcanal campaign, the British moved the colonial capital from war-damaged Tulagi to Honiara in 1952, using the wartime roads, port, and the nearby Henderson Field airstrip (now Honiara International Airport).
Memory tip: Honiara on Guadalcanal—think “Honor Guadalcanal,” linking the capital to the islands’ most famous WWII battleground. Don’t confuse it with other Pacific capitals: Port Vila (Vanuatu), Suva (Fiji), and Apia (Samoa).
