Slovenia
Capital of: Ljubljana
Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia, serving as the country’s political, cultural, and economic center. Situated along the Ljubljanica River, it’s known for the Triple Bridge, the hilltop Ljubljana Castle, and its dragon symbol on the Dragon Bridge. Slovenia became independent in 1991, and Ljubljana has since anchored the nation’s identity, later representing Slovenia in the EU and eurozone.
The other options—Maribor, Celje, and Kranj—are important Slovenian cities (Maribor is the second largest) but not the capital. Memory tip: In many Slavic languages, “ljub” relates to “love,” so think “Ljubljana = the ‘beloved’ capital.” Also, picture the city’s dragon to “guard” your memory of Slovenia’s true capital.
