Slovakia

Capital of: Bratislava

Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia, sitting on the Danube near the borders with Austria and Hungary—making it the only national capital that directly borders two countries. Historically known as Pressburg/Pozsony, it served as the coronation city for Hungarian kings from the 16th to 19th centuries and today hosts Slovakia’s government beneath the landmark Bratislava Castle. Remember it this way: Slovakia and Bratislava share the “slav” sound—SloVAkia / BratiSLAva. Don’t mix it up with nearby capitals: Prague is Czechia’s, Budapest is Hungary’s, and Warsaw is Poland’s.
