Myanmar
Capital of: Naypyidaw
Naypyidaw is Myanmar’s capital, officially designated in 2005–2006 when the military government moved the seat of government from Yangon. Built as a planned city near Pyinmana in central Myanmar, it was chosen for administrative efficiency, security, and a more central location. It features purpose-built government complexes, wide boulevards, and dispersed zones for ministries and housing.
Yangon remains the largest city and commercial hub; Mandalay is a major cultural center; Bagan is famed for its ancient temples but is not a modern capital. Memory tip: “Naypyidaw” (also spelled Nay Pyi Taw) means “abode of kings”—think “Nay = new” capital and “royal seat” for the seat of government.
