Morocco

Capital of: Rabat

Rabat is Morocco’s capital, serving as the seat of the king, parliament, and government ministries. Located on the Atlantic at the mouth of the Bou Regreg River, it became the administrative capital in 1912 under the French Protectorate and has remained the political center since independence. Don’t be fooled: Casablanca is the largest city and economic hub; Marrakech is a famed imperial city and tourist magnet; Tangier is a historic port by the Strait of Gibraltar. Memory tip: remember the three R’s—Rabat, Royal (palace), and River (Bou Regreg)—to lock in Morocco’s capital.
