Micronesia

Capital of: Palikir

Palikir is the capital of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), located on the island of Pohnpei near the larger town of Kolonia. It became the seat of government in 1989. The other options are Pacific capitals too, but of different places: Hagåtña (Guam), Majuro (Marshall Islands), and Funafuti (Tuvalu). Context and memory tip: The FSM is a federation of four states—Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae—scattered across the western Pacific and united under one national government. Remember “P for Palikir on Pohnpei”: both start with P, linking the capital to its island. Despite being a small settlement, Palikir hosts the national congress and executive offices, while nearby Kolonia remains the commercial hub.
