Marshall Islands

Capital of: Majuro

Majuro is the capital and largest population center of the Republic of the Marshall Islands. Located on Majuro Atoll in the Ratak (Sunrise) Chain, it hosts the national government, international airport, and key services; the 1979 constitution designated it the capital when the country became self-governing. The other options are notable but not the capital: Kwajalein Atoll hosts a major U.S. missile test site; nearby Ebeye is a densely populated islet where many workers live; Bikini Atoll is famous for Cold War nuclear tests and is now largely uninhabited. Memory tip: Majuro is the “major” hub—think “major-o” to remember the capital.
