Libya

Capital of: Tripoli

Tripoli is Libya’s capital and largest city, a strategic Mediterranean port that houses the country’s main government institutions. Founded by the Phoenicians as Oea and later part of the Roman-era Tripolitania, its name comes from the Greek “Tri-polis” (“three cities”)—Oea, Sabratha, and Leptis Magna. It’s also called “Tripoli of the West” to distinguish it from Tripoli in Lebanon. Memory tip: scan North Africa from east to west—Cairo (Egypt), Tripoli (Libya), Tunis (Tunisia), Algiers (Algeria), Rabat (Morocco). Tripoli sits between Cairo and Tunis. And among the options, Cairo = Egypt, Algiers = Algeria, Tunis = Tunisia, leaving Tripoli for Libya.
