Gambia
Capital of: Banjul
Banjul is the capital of The Gambia, located on St. Mary’s Island at the mouth of the Gambia River. It’s the country’s administrative center (though nearby Serekunda is larger) and was called Bathurst under British rule until it was renamed in 1973.
Don’t confuse it with other West African capitals: Dakar (Senegal), Accra (Ghana), and Conakry (Guinea). Memory tip: The Gambia is a narrow country built around a single river—think “BANJul at the river’s BANk,” where the Gambia River meets the Atlantic.
