Bahamas
Capital of: Nassau
Nassau is the capital of The Bahamas, located on New Providence Island. It’s the nation’s political and economic hub, home to Parliament Square, Government House, and the main international airport. Founded in the 17th century and renamed for William III of Orange-Nassau, it once served as a famous pirate haven before becoming the center of Bahamian governance.
By contrast, Freeport is a major free-trade city on Grand Bahama; George Town is the chief town of Great Exuma (and also the capital of the Cayman Islands—easy to mix up); and Marsh Harbour is the largest town in Abaco. Memory tip: N for Nassau on New Providence—N and N marks the Bahamian capital.
