Argentina
Capital of: Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires is Argentina’s federal capital and largest city, home to the Casa Rosada (presidential palace) and the National Congress on the Río de la Plata. Its status as an autonomous city (CABA) was cemented in 1880 when it became the seat of national government. By contrast, Córdoba and Rosario are major cities, and La Plata is the capital of Buenos Aires Province—not the nation.
Memory tip: Think “Buenos” = “best-known”—Argentina’s best-known city is the capital. Or remember the initials B.A.: Buenos Aires and “Be the Authority,” where the national authority sits.
